The water pavilion combines the materials from the previous temple that occupied the site with a new structure that represents the progress of this special economic zone. Traditional elements of the Chinese courtyard are incorporated into the parti. Entrance to the pavilion is provided through the restored remnants of the previous temple. The wood columns and beams are used to support the new roof structure. Water flows over the angled glass wall into the reflecting pool. Rain water can be seen draining from the roof area over the recessed skylight detail. Providing a venue for art and music events the outer courtyards provide shade and cooling for children who are traditionally accompanied by their grandparents during the hot tropical summers. As in my previous work Chinese Script is the basis of the plan.
